Arroyo Grande Valley, Block ZZ3-1, Clone Mt. Eden

Tasting Notes

Having benefited from being located in one of the warmer parts of the vineyard, the profile is ripe red with candied fruit, pomegranate, and violets, coupled with a distinct earthiness Mt. Eden is known for. The mouthfeel is full and round, with a good amount of tannin.

Vintage Notes

The early part of the 2020 growing season was mild and steady. The fruit set was good and canopies were well developed. Harvest began with the same steady start, however, we encountered three serious heatwaves throughout the harvest, with the first beginning September 5th. Although the heat created challenges, the grapes remained in tact and in relatively good condition. Achieving ripeness was not a problem, and the wines tend to show a depth of ripe fruit. It should be noted that much of California dealt with fires, but fortunately, our Estate was spared with no issues.
